The construction of the new cathedral of Moroto in the Karamoja region in the northeast of Uganda is a project to which the Holy Father wanted to give further impetus on the occasion of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, through a contribution coming from Peter’s Pence, which will be added to the funds already collected and destined for the Ugandan diocese.

In addition, numerous initiatives have been promoted to raise funds for this work, among them the "Concert for the Poor and with the Poor" held on 12 November 2016 at the Nervi hall in Vatican, which saw the participation, among others, the master Ennio Morricone who directed the Roman Sinfonetta orchestra and the Choir of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia and of Mons. Marco Frisina who directed the choir of the Diocese of Rome.
