The offerings to Peter’s Pence gathered from the diocese of Cremona will be destined to the bishops of Haiti, the Caribbean island hard hit by a hurricane

Pope Francis announced this through a message sent to the bishop of the Lombardian city, Mons. Antonio Napolioni.

"Dear brother - writes the Holy Father - I thank you for the offering you gave me. I will give it to the bishops of Haiti, who are so much in need, in these days they are for the ad limina visit. Please do not forget to pray for me. May the Lord bless you and Our Lady protect you".

Haiti had been scourged by Hurricane Matthew and is grappling with the biggest humanitarian crisis since the 2010 earthquake.

In the latest report the local authorities say that there were over 900 deaths and thousands of displaced people, but the figures are still provisional due to the isolation of many areas.
