FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

During the wire transfer, the system reports a mismatch between the IBAN and the beneficiary’s information. What should I do?

Due to new European regulations on bank transfers, if you see a “mismatch” between the IBAN and the beneficiary’s details, please be assured that by clicking “CONTINUE,” your donation will be forwarded normally to the beneficiary “Obolo di San Pietro.”

Is it possible to make a bequest for the Holy Father?

Yes, it is possible. Since every individual situation is different, we kindly ask you to contact the St. Peter’s Pence Office for more information (tel. 06/69884851; obolo@spe.va).

Is a donation to the St. Peter’s Pence Fund tax-deductible in Italy?

The St. Peter’s Pence Fund is neither tax-deductible nor tax-creditable in Italy. Since it is a donation made directly to the Holy See (which is considered a foreign state), it does not qualify as a charitable contribution under Italian tax law.

How are the donations received throughout the year and on the occasion of the Pope’s Day of Charity used?

The Holy Father’s charitable work encompasses his entire mission—both apostolic and charitable (projects and humanitarian aid)—which is also carried out through the departments of the Roman Curia. The primary function of these bodies is to provide specific services to the Holy Father. For instance, this can include services for the unity of the faith, the liturgy, the Pope’s communications, the promotion of peace and human development, the preservation of the heritage of Vatican institutions, and the Pontifical Representations. These activities are partially supported by donations designated for St. Peter’s Pence. For more information, please consult the Annual Report on St. Peter’s Pence
