Colombia: donation of food and protection kits to the Colombian diocese of Cúcuta

During the month of October 2020, Pope Francis donated 3,300 food parcels and 3,300 protection and hygiene kits - the third aid instalment - to the diocese of Cúcuta, in Colombia, to help Venezuelan migrants who, after being stranded for months at the Colombian-Venezuelan border, are now on their way to the interior of the country or to neighbouring nations in search of better living conditions. Their journey has been scarred by the pandemic and has further aggravated any other existing health conditions.

Thanks to the Pontifical Populorum Progressio Foundation, which finances projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, the aid will be distributed over a period of 21 days, in between 250 and 300 deliveries per day. The first delivery was made, through the Diocesan Food Bank (DFB), in the first week of October, and was destined for migrants who travelled between Cúcuta and the municipality of Chinácota, thus responding to the Pope's call to welcome, protect, promote and integrate our brothers and sisters.
