On Tuesday, 23 November 2021, a machine that generates medical oxygen was formally inaugurated with the Rite of Blessing at Saint Raphael Hospital in Baghdad. The machine was donated by Pope Francis through funds placed at the disposal of the Secretariat of State by the Congregation for the Eastern Churches and the Apostolic Almoner.

The Hospital's Administrative Director, Sister Maryanne Pierre, O.P., from the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin, expressed her gratitude for the precious gift from the Holy Father.

Ghaleb Mansoor Sawa, the Hospital's Director, and Doctor Amjad Khacheek Majeed, Department Head of the analytic laboratory, confirmed that the machine has been used regularly for several months in the production of oxygen for patients who need it, and that the oxygen produced is not used only at Saint Raphaels, but they also supply other hospitals with it, including state hospitals and hospitals in other cities.

This generator has been indispensable in dealing with the Covid emergency and will be essential should the prediction of another wave prove true.
